Band of Skulls is an English blues and indie rock band from Southampton. The band consists of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals) and Emma Richardson (bass, vocals). Matt Hayward (drums) was also part of the band until his departure in 2017.
The band was formed by Marsden, Richardson and Hayward in 2004 who formed a band after they all met in college. Initially, they played at night clubs in the greater London area and recorded some demos under the name of Fleeing New York before changing their name to Band of Skulls in November 2008.
They have so far released five studio albums, two EPs and three live albums.
Their debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, distributed by Shangri-La Music, was released exclusively on the iTunes Store on March 6, 2009, followed by a general release on March 20. The track I Know What I Am was chosen as iTunes' free Single of the Week to coincide with the digital release. The song was also chosen to be part of a soundtrack for a television series; it is the sixth track on Friday Night Lights, Volume 2, which was released on May 4th, 2010. The band's single Friends, which was a cast-off from Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, was included on The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack in November 2009. On March 23rd, 2010, the Band of Skulls released Friends-EP, which includes the studio-recorded version of Friends, a live version, and a music video of the song. Later in 2010, they have relased a live album called Live on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. In 2011, the band released The Devil Takes Care of His Own, the first single off of their 2012 album, Sweet Sour. In 2014, Asleep at the Wheel was released. It is the first track off of their third album, Himalayan, released in March of 2014. In April of 2016, the single So Good was released, followed by a 2017 release of By Default, the fifth album. This is the last album with Hayward. Their most recent album, Love Is All You Love, was released in April of 2019.
