Matt's choice of live microphone is a Neumann KMS 105. He prefers to use this microphone as it deals with his challenging mic technique (i.e. not singing near the mic).

Designed with superlative vocal reproduction in mind, the KMS 105 brings Neumann quality to the demanding sound reinforcement environment. With its supercardioid polar pattern, low self-noise and uncoloured off-axis pickup, the KMS 105 complements in-ear monitor systems. By employing a unique four-layer acoustic filter, the KMS 105 minimises popping and wind noise, and because of special mechanical and electrical filters handling noise is virtually eliminated. Superior resolution and linear frequency response make it very easy for the artist using the KMS 105 to identify whether he or she is "on mic".

The Neumann KMS 105 is used extensively by many large bands and costs around the £400 mark.

Matt's Microphone stands have until recently been K&M 23850 desk mounted stands, these crane mics suiting Bellamy's singing technique.

During The Resistance tour, both Matt and Chris use Yellowtec MIKARM YT3201 Studio Mic Booms which are Aluminium frames giving optimum movement. These are desktop mics mounted on a stage mic stand and usually cost around $225.00 . (unfortunately they can't seem to be found in the UK)
These mic stands, previously believed to be custom built for Muse are actually used in studios, most commonly in radio stations.

Recently on the 2nd Law tour Matt has switched to a Nuemann Handheld Wireless microphone, model KK 105 s.This enables Matt to move around the stage and interact with the crowd during singing parts that don't require guitar playing.

Also during the european leg of the 2nd law tour,Muse have stopped using the desk mounted radio mic booms, and instead have swtiched to standard K&M microphone stands, this is probably due to the fact that Matt has freedom to detatch the wireless microphone from the stand and no longer requires the manouverability of the radio mic booms.

For Psycho and Drones Tour, They are using 'Atlas Sound' microphone boom and stand bottom.
Background
This is one of the several guitars built by Manson Guitars for Matt in 2015. It is similar to some guitars produced by Manson Works series, that features the unique 'Holey' finish. Two Silver Glitter Holes were bulit for Matt. This one features black pickup on bridge and holes which come in from different directions, rather than vertically, while Silver Glitter Holes 2.0 features chrome bridge pickup and diferent placement of holes on the body. Like all new Manson guitars from 2015 it features a truss rod adjuster at the end of the neck. Built by Hugh, the guitar's design and finish was inspired Hugh's trip to the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona, Spain in 2014.
----
Hugh on Silver Glitter Holes in Total Guitar Magazine #268:

I went to Barcelona for a long weekend and went to Basilica, which is just the most amazing piece of architecture. I went there and I was so inspired by the whole thing… So I came back and bult a guitar with loads of holes in it, which seems a bit diverse, but the idea came from seeing the columns in the Basilica. It's the lozenge shape with lots of holes that are aluminium tubes. Then the body is lacquered with a holographic sparkle. They sound amazing, really mid-scooped. It's really resonant, because what's happening scientifically when you drill a load of holes is you're making the surface area of the guitar enormously greater. So it sounds louder acoustically, and the strings performs differently. Every electric guitar is different, and by messing around with what I call the surface area of the guitar allows you to mess around with the way the strings vibrates, thus what frequency is accentuated or not.

This guitar first appeared at the Belfast Ulster Hall on the opening night of the 2015 Psycho Tour. Since the summer festival gigs it is used for songs tuned half step down.

Composition and analysis
Reapers is perhaps one of the most progressive songs in Muse's catalog, featuring prominent use of modulation, demanding guitar work and an uncharacteristically improvised solo.

Guitar feedback and pounding drums introduce the song before Bellamy lunges into a tapped guitar solo with an unstable tonal center. Eventually rooting in D minor, the verse establishes an urgent air of desperation, as Bellamy sings of domestic conflict and drone warfare. The lyrics make reference to the "AGM-114 Hellfire" air-to-surface missile commonly used in aerial combat vehicles. The verse follows the Andalusian cadence twice, a chord progression also found in Citizen Erased and Resistance, with Wolstenholme's bass walking across the ninth of each chord.

Bellamy and Wolstenholme play in unison for the primary guitar riff, which uses the D minor pentatonic scale and is backed by a "Drones!" chant. The riff climbs chromatically to establish a new tonal centre in the G Mixolydian mode, providing a strong chorus for Bellamy's declaration that he is ready to become a reaper. Before long, the stop-start chugging guitars give way to another tapping solo, and eventually the verse and chorus repeat again.

Following the second chorus, Howard drums in unison with Bellamy as he plays the primary riff. Wolstenholme continues this motif as Bellamy launches into a guitar solo, filled with pitch-shifting effects, tapping and chromatic melodies. The riff ascends as the key changes to E minor, eventually climbing through the fourth and fifth to revisit the chorus one last time.

As the final chorus ends, riffs give way to arpeggiated chords as the song builds to a dramatic climax, at which point the tempo suddenly drops and Bellamy howls over a chromatic bassline played by Wolstenholme. As the intensity builds, Bellamy doubles the bassline on his guitar as air raid sirens sound and Wolstenholme repeatedly screams "HERE COME THE DRONES!" into the microphone.
It is unknown at which point of the US club shows Matt used this guitar the first time live but at latest at the KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta gig. It is unknown at which point of the US club shows Matt used this guitar the first time live but at latest at the KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta gig. This guitar is one of 12 new Manson Guitars built for Matt Bellamy from 2015. It is is very similar to the Manson Matt Black except for a slightly different bridge compared to the other Matt Blacks and a truss rod adjuster at the end of the neck. It is exactly the same guitar like the Manson Matt Black Stealth except for the normal 'silver' hardware instead of the blackened hardware. Photos taken before the Psycho UK Tour started, show the guitar in the Matts guitar rack. Official Photos from Manson Guitars led to the assumption, that Matt got two of this guitars delivered, the other one termed as Manson Matt Black 3.0, together with 4 Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Guitars
This guitar appeared at the Stockholm STV TV Programme on the 14th of September 2012. Like the Manson Carbon, this guitar does not feature a X/Y midi controller pad, which is a change from a majority of Matt's Resistance era guitars.

The guitar had to match a specific weight requirement (around 2.4kg) so multiple holes were drilled into the body, neck (routed), hardware to reach the target weight. This is the lightest guitar Hugh has built for Matt. This is the second of six Manson guitars created by Hugh Manson for Bellamy in 2012.

It features the custom knobs and machineheads of the Manson Delorean, but with 5/6 holes drilled into them at the back to reduce the weight.

Also it is nearly identical with a bunch of other Manson Matt Blacks from a batch series, that Matt uses for smashing around.

Touring
Along with the Manson M1D1 Gloss Black, it was the most frequently used guitar on The 2nd Law tour.

On the April 10, 2013 Toronto gig this guitar featured a new (natural) maple neck. It was thrown out of the pyramid the evening before during the outro of Stockholm Syndrome. A video of the incident can be seen here Hw9oSLIdd1Y.

Since the beginning of the Unsustainable Stadium Tour, the guitar featured a new natural maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and a black headstock.

For the Psycho UK Tour Matt used this guitar for nearly all Drop-D tuned songs, and also tossed it around several times. A picture showing some damages to the guitar, Matt commented with: 'For those concerned, guitar is totally fine, I'm using it tonight, it's taken much worse. Manson guitars are built to last; military grade...'

This page contains all Manson Matt Black guitars that followed the Manson Matt Black, as all of the guitars seem to be from the same batch.
In contrast to their name giver, these do not have custom hardware, but some of them have the same uncovered humbucker (III, IV, V) and some feature a covered Manson MBK-2 (II, from V onward).

Matt mainly uses these guitars for smashing around.
This guitar was built by Tim Stark of Manson Guitars in February 2013 an debuted at the March 5th, 2013 Columbus gig. It was very similar to the Manson Matt Black except with standard (not custom) hardware and a standard Manson MBK-2 Bridge Pickup instead of the uncovered Humbucker.

Touring
At the second gig Matt used this guitar, he slided it over the LED-panels while playing the Freedom outro and finally threw it out between the slots of the pyramid. Most likely the neck received heavy damgage, because the next show the Matt Black II wasn't used until it returned at the Tulsa gig with a new neck. This neck seemed similar to the DL-1 neck that the Manson Red Glitter 2.0 got after a damage.

At the Las Vegas gig Matt threw it out through the slots again, this time the guitar nearly flew into the crowd.
With the beginning of the Uprising outro riff he smashed it four times very heavily and and finally threw this guitar into the audience. On a video (K2eVcR9xbCM) can be seen, that the audience starts a fight over the guitar, whereupon the security confiscated the guitar. A tweet from Dominic Anderson says that the guys catching the guitar were allowed to keep the guitar after the concert.

Apparantly someone from the crowd was slightly injured because of the throw and/or the fight for the guitar.
This is their first official single from their new album, 'Drones', which was unveiled March 23rd, 2015 on xFM (with Chris) and on BBC Radio 1 (with Matt).

Information
Matt on Dead Inside: “This is where the story of the album begins, where the protagonist loses hope and becomes 'Dead Inside', therefore vulnerable to the dark forces introduced in 'Psycho' and which ensue over the next few songs on the album, before eventually defecting, revolting and overcoming these dark forces later in the story."

The song sounds like its heavily influenced by 80s artists like Depeche Mode and Prince. Its fairly simple, instrumentation wise, and it features drums, bass, and lightly distorted guitar. The last chorus of the song almost sounds like the last part of Madness.

Lyrics
Dead Inside!

Revere
A milion prayers
And draw me into your holiness

But there's nothing there
Light only shines from those who share
Unleash a million drones
And confine me then erase me babe

Do you have no soul?
It's like it died long ago
Your lips feel warm to the touch
You can bring me back to life

On the outside, you're a blaze and alive
But you're dead inside

You're free to the touch the sky
Whilst I am crushed and pulverised
Because you need control
now I'm the one who's letting go

You like to give an inch
Whilst I am giving infinity

But now I've got nothing left
You have no cares and I'm bereft
Your skin feels warm to caress
I see magic in your eyes

On the outside, you're a blaze and alive
But you're dead inside

Feel me now, hold me please
I need you to see who I am
Open up to me Stop hiding from me
It's hurting babe only you can stop the pain

Don't leave me out in the cold
Don't leave me out to die
I gave you everything
I can't give you anymore
Now I've become just like you

My lips feel warm to the touch
My words seem so alive
My skin is warm to caress
I'll control and hypnotise
You've taught me to lie without a trace
And to kill with no remorse
On the outside
I'm the greatest guy

Now I'm dead inside!
:Perhaps something to do with the studio photographs posted on twitter. I don't know what to think, the twitter feed is linked to on Bare Knuckle Pickups' front-page, so the feed appears genuine. I can't imagine any motivation to fib, so unless it's a joke, I guess it could be true. Double-neck guitars would be a bit of a change, to say the least. == Black Ed ==
I was reading Matt's interview in Guitar Player mag and he said that the guitar he used most on the Resistance was called Black Ed. I was just wondering if anyone new if this was the 007 or the Black Midi? --Muserism 00:19, 17 June 2010 (BST)
---
I'm sure it is Kaoss Manson, beacause it is used for the most songs of the 'black' guitars --IIIAliAsIII 17:00, 17 June 2010 (GMT)
---
I read the article and I reckon it 007/Blackie, he mentions it had Fuzz Factory & Wah Probe etc, its the only guitar that has a Wah Probe --RustRelic
It was the 007/Black Manson. Thats wat he said in an interview a while ago. Im sorry i dont have a link. --MuseIsAwesome13 02:14, 13 July 2010 (BST)
---
OK it looks like Black Ed is Blackie. But - don't we agree it is the least used guitar not just in the Resistance era, but always... ? It is used for Starlight again and it was used for U2 and AC/DC cover, and for Uprising and Unnatural selection at the beginning of the tour - and that is pretty much it. For example.. even Glitterati is used more often than 007. But most used manson this year is definatly Kaoss. My guess is Matt was a little confused during that interview :) --IIIAliAsIII 12:28, 13 July 2010 (GMT)
---
Another thing though, they use different guitars in studio than on tour. Maybe they just used 007 for recording but didn't like it's live sound. Cause he said he used it to record. --MuseIsAwesome13 15:44, 13 July 2010 (BST)
:::Looks like the move log, like the revision log, doesn't have enough space for comprehensive rationale, so here's mine for forthcoming changes:
:::
Look like there's a new Manson Guitars website (http://mansons.co.uk/gallery/). In said gallery, it's not explicitly stated that any of the guitars belong to/were built for Matthew Bellamy, but the images match the previous ones. One problem we do have now, is that Red Glitter appears to have been renamed Red Sparkle, while another less sparkly, non-custom-built guitar is called Red Glitter. For the sake of collective sanity, let's just make an intuitive judgement that the new information is more accurate than the old, despite the new gallery not explicitly stating that they're the guitars we're interested in.

They are the official names which Matt calls his guitars. There is a picture of a setlist for Matt's tech which shows which guitars are used for which songs and what they should be tuned to in the NME 100 Page Icons Special. It should also be noted that the Silver/ Chrome Bomber and the Mirror Manson are not the names which Matt calls them, however the names are to hard to read from the picture of said setlist. i dont think its the mirror manson because the mirror doesnt have black pickups. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Muse_melbourne28012010.jpg that has to be a new one. white/mirror/silver and black pickups. cant be old delorean or mirror.--User:Danooch

It is the mirror. The pickups look black in the picture probably due to the light. Look at the Manson Mirror page- the pick ups are chrome/silver. Plus, doing small comparisons, we can see that the guitars both in this picture and this one have the same layout in everything- same pickups, same knob layout etc. If anything has happened to the Mirror Manson than it has had new pickups, which I highly doubt as in all the pictures, the pickups are the same. --The Groove

:If I'm honest, I don't support this idea. It is just strange to me, that MuseWiki would share the info about who made the unofficial Manson replicas and showing them here. I don't see MuseWiki that way.
:As example what I'm trying to say... it would be the same to me if someone suggested, that MuseWiki should have the 'Muse Covers' section where people could show ther interpetation of Muse songs. MuseWiki should not be exploited for such things. It is OK with me to show this kind of info in your profile page, but making it as a special section... No :)
Rust Relic 2.0 vs Rust Bomber vs Copper Bomber
Just wondering what people's thoughts were on this - personally, as the new guitar has a more coppery colour than the old Rust Relic and a shape that suggests lineage with Bomber and Chrome Bomber, I wondered if the portmanteau name "Rust Bomber" or the more descriptive "Copper Bomber" might be a better way to phrase it? Personally, I'm more drawn to Rust Bomber, as it'd be the third in the Bomber series to be used live and I think that's a better way to describe it. What do people think?

Ulisun (talk) 5:52 pm March 17, 2015 (GMT)
I think Copper Bomber is the most proper name. From the instagram photos and live videos on Youtube, the guitar finish looks like a 'copper' not the rust. The surface of the guitar seems smooth, not like a rusty or rough thing.
